Animal experts named the cat because of its graceful physique and graceful movements, which are reminiscent of those of the indigenous dancers of Bali, Indonesia, but in fact have no geographic relationship with Bali.
The Balinese cat is a famous long-haired cat, bred in the United States as a long-haired mutation of the Siamese cat. It first appeared among cats thought to be of pure Siamese lineage. At the time, there was little interest from cat breeders, but the appeal of the Balinese cat gradually expanded, so the breed began to develop. Because long hair is a recessive gene, any two Balinese cats mated will inevitably give birth to Balinese kittens of the medium-length hair type, but heterozygous type crosses are also used to maintain the short-haired appearance of the Siamese cat.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Mrs. Belen Smith of New York State in the United States found a long-haired mutation in the offspring of Siamese cats, which was called the “crippled Siamese cat” at that time, so although it participated in the cat show in 1930, it was not able to win a prize at the show, Later, after more than 30 years of efforts by breeders and a series of selective breeding, purification and reproduction, the cat was finally recognized by the American Cat Breeders Association for the first time in 1963. The first breeder was California native Marion Dorsey. He worked with another cat breeder in New York and planned the breeding program as early as the 1960s.

Balinese cats are in the habit of licking the hair on their bodies, and since the cat’s tongue is rough, as if it were a bristle brush, it will often lick itself to remove dirt and groom the fur. But you can’t therefore leave the care of the body all to the cat itself. Because even if the fur is soft, there are places where the tongue cannot lick, especially for long-haired breeds, it is difficult for the cat to keep the fur clean by itself, so the help of the owner is indispensable.
